The practice of Cardiovascular and Chest Surgical Associates was established in 1967 when Dr. Rodney Herr brought cardiac surgery to Boise. The practice was renamed in 2005 to reflect the changing nature of this dynamic multi-specialty physician group.
During the early days of Heart Surgery, surgeons were trained in not only cardiac and thoracic surgery, but in vascular surgery as well. Hence the term Cardiovascular Surgery. Over the last thirty years the field of Cardiac Surgery has seen enormous technological advances and specialization. During the same period the field of Vascular Surgery has undergone transformation from a branch of general surgery to a unique field of surgical subspecialization.
Today the field of Cardiothoracic Surgery continues to evolve, especially in the area of minimally invasive surgery.
Vascular Surgery has evolved especially in the area of endovascular diagnostics and intervention.
The new practice name, Cardiothoracic & Vascular Associates (CVA), reflects this change in focus and specialization.
Our practice aims to help patients not only in the treatment of cardiovascular disease, but in the diagnosis of disease as well. We have our own in-house diagnostic vascular lab, the VascularCenter, with two locations. For more information, please visit our VascularCenter page.
Our clinic is located in downtown Boise near the main campus of St. Luke's Regional Medical Center. Our physicians make patient consultations and treat patients at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center's Boise location and at St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center's Boise location. In addition, our Vascular Surgeons see patients at the Boise Veteran's Administration Hospital. For more information, please visit our Locations page.
Our practice has been treating patients with varicose veins and venous insufficiency since the 1980's. Over the past 10-15 years our Vascular Surgeons have noticed an increase in the number of non-vascular specialists and non-physicians treating patients with these conditions.
As a means of stating our commitment to the idea that Board Certified Vascular Surgeons are the most qualified individuals to treat patients with venous disease, we established a division called VeinCare.
VeinCare consists of four Board Certified Vascular Surgeons, one Physician Assistant and the hardest working support staff of administrative assistants and medical billing specialists anywhere.
