Matthew W. Schoolfield, MD

Dr. Schoolfield was born and raised in the Midwest, including Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa. He received a Bachelors degree from the University of Sioux Falls in South Dakota in biology and chemistry. He then went on to the University of South Dakota for his medical doctorate.

In 2002-2007 Dr. Schoolfield completed a General Surgery Residency at Robert Packer Hospital in Pennsylvania.  During his time there Dr. Schoolfield spent five weeks in Kenya, Africa performing surgery at a mission hospital in Tenwek. 

Dr. Schoolfield completed the Oregon Health and Science University Cardiothoracic Surgery residency in Portland, Oregon from 2007-2009.  He focused on a General Thoracic track with training in Video Assisted Thoracic Surgery (VATS) for pulmonary lobectomy, esophageal surgery, and minimally invasive tumor staging of the mediastinum with endoscopic ultrasound.

Dr. Schoolfield joined Cardiothoracic and Vascular Associates in September 2009.  He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and is board eligible by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.   He lives in Boise with his wife and son.
